it wasn’t smooth sailing but as anyone who has done a remodel or build before — it never is — but Paul is a great partner for those times, he’ll come through!"

Eclectic Industrial Basement: Guest and entertainment suite
Award-winning basement remodel; Appleton, Wisconsin: The homeowners wanted their traditional home to reflect their modern, ascetic aesthetic. Their unfinished basement was a blank canvas and the perfect place to begin updating their house. They envisioned a modern, versatile space that could be used for entertaining, guest accommodations, exercise and wellness. Making the most of the available space, they added a home theater, a kitchenette, a guest bedroom suite, home office workspace and a personal gym with sauna and spa area.
Challenge: Lack of natural lighting, a support post that couldn’t be moved and a cracked foundation were the major design and construction challenges faced during this project. Work onsite began after the “Safer at Home” mandate was lifted. Fortunately, the basement had a separate entrance. A safe work environment was maintained by limiting onsite workers to ensure physical distancing and by using the basement entrance.
Timber Innovations transformed an unfinished basement and designed a vibrant industrial space that is warm and intimate, yet open; creating privacy without walls. By incorporating the homeowners modern aesthetic contrasted with sensory details — accented wood grains that add visual interest, wood slats on black doors adding texture and dimension, and multi-level floors and surfaces to define spaces — Timber Innovations created a unique and inviting multi-use, guest and entertainment suite in a basement with natural light streaming through glass walls to the interior.
